EAS Congress 2012 is currently taking place in Changwon City

Carrying the theme, “Building a Blue Economy: Strategy, Opportunities, and Partnerships in the Seas of East Asia”, the EAS Congress 2012 will bring to the fore the crucial role of coastal and ocean resources in support of the global commitments to enhance human welfare and environmental sustainability while pursuing economic growth.

congress.jpgThe EAS Congress 2012 will feature the Fourth Ministerial Forum, an International Conference, an Exhibition, and the Third EAS Youth Forum, as well as a special EAS Partnership Council Meeting, a PEMSEA Network of Local Governments (PNLG) Forum, and many other activities.

The International Conference will feature several major conference sub-themes that cover essential aspects of sustainable coastal and ocean development. These sub-themes are: (1) Nurturing the Coastal and Ocean Economies of the Seas of East Asia: Opportunities and Challenges; (2) Accelerating Blue Innovations in Support of an Ocean-based Blue Economy; (3) Securing Ecosystem Services through Integrated Coastal and Ocean Management; (4) Good Governance, Good Business; and (5) Meeting Institutional and Individual Skills and Capacities for Integrated Coastal and Ocean Governance.

The Fourth Ministerial Forum on the Sustainable Development of the Seas of East Asia serves as a venue for the Ministers of PEMSEA Country partners to discuss important issues and relevant plans on ensuring the sustainability of the coastal and marine resources of the region of East Asia. Now on its third cycle, the East Asian Seas Youth Forum will gather 100 young leaders Asia to share their experiences in protecting the oceans and coasts. Carrying the theme, “Young Champions for the Ocean”, the YF3 aims to enhance the awareness and to develop the potential of the youth of East Asia as future practitioners in coastal and ocean management.
